Wave's multifocal designs display the full advantage of the Wave system. As with all designs, Wave's attention is given to the lens periphery for precise centration. Next the proper tear film thickness is optimized across the lens until the designer is satisfied with the simulated fluorescein map.
When entering the additive power, you have the opportunity to select one of three designs: center distance, center near of segmented. Most used is center near; the other options are often used for smaller pupils.
Suppose a center distance lens is dispensed. The patient is happy with their distance vision but wishes for better near vision. Wave solves this by enabling the adjustment of optical zones in 0.10mm steps. For this example, making the center distance a little smaller makes the annular near zone larger. Non custom multifocal lenses approach might be to add power, possibly compromising distance vision.
